Fastest zone hops to 600 skinning with suggested mobs and gear tips.
Classic Zones (1-300)

Keep skinning glove enchant + skinning knife; use level-appropriate mobs (same level) for best skill-ups.
TBC Zones (300-375)

Savage Leather (and Heavy Savage 5:1 combines) feeds all Cata Leatherworking; Pristine Hide procs are the jackpot.
MoP Zones (525-600)

Exotic Leather is MoP's universal leather — bulk it for Magnificent Hide combines. Skinning speed pairs perfectly with the 85-90 leveling grind through the same zones.
Tips & Gold
Use Finkle's Skinner (if available) for +10 skill, or enchant gloves. Sell Arctic Fur/Heavy Borean, and convert scraps. Pair with Leatherworking for self-sufficiency.
